Calling this a story is a stretch. It's a tiny piece that fits on a bookmark, published as a contribution to the anthology named above, for the 1989 Magicon in Orlando, Florida.

This novel was originally published by Tor Books in 1992 to what I regard as a gratifying reception: lots of reviews, mostly enthusiastic, and good sales for a little-known author.
It is now out of print, and I am delighted to continue making it available on the web.
